It’s David and Renee creates sustainably sourced specialty wood surfaces for artists. Everything they create is handcrafted from domestic and local PA woods, and is completely sanded smooth so you don’t have to do any sanding. All wood pieces are prepped and ready for immediate art.

1. How long have you been burning for and how did you discover pyrography/what got you started?

I officially started burning in 2019 via David’s grandpa’s old wood burner we found in his workshop. It was awful and super old, but it peaked my interest and I went from there!

3. What are your favorite tools to use when wood burning (machines, nibs, wood, other odd tools etc...)?

Fave burner: the Optima 1 from PJL Enterprises.

Fave nibs: the large skew nib, the burnishing nib, the ball point nibs, and the spear shader nib.

Fave wood: cherry and cedar

Fave color to add: handmade watercolors!

Fave sanding tool: a Dewalt orbital sander

Fave sandpaper: Shopsmith brand

Fave misc tools: a sanding pen/prep pen, 400 grit sandpaper, and a cork trivet

4. Do you make any other kind of art? What kinds of other mediums do you like to work with?

Sometimes! I have art supplies out the wazoo from playing and experimenting with so many things. I use acrylics, gouache, watercolors, gel pens, gel sticks, color pencils, watercolor pencils, and a lot more. Let’s just say the only thing I DON’T use are oil paints.

5. What would people be surprised to learn about you?

People are always surprised to learn that people in my family get struck by lighting and live. I’ve had several relatives all on the same side get struck. It’s comical at this point.

People are also surprised to learn that I share my birthday with 6 other individuals in my family. There’s me, my mom, my great grandma, my great aunt, my cousin Cameron, my hedgehog Noodles, and my mom’s dog Gizmo. All born on Feb 23. It must be something with the universe.

Also, the smell of Brussel sprouts makes me physically sick. And I’m allergic to tomato plants. Not tomatoes, just the plants.
